When we think of “The Holocaust” we’re typically referring to a specific event in the distant past that we want to be really, really, careful to not repeat. We often think of ourselves to be much too civilized for that now – having learned from the past.

Think again.

I found a very interesting article on the Evangelical Philosophical Society website. It seems as though Philip Johnson’s predictions from a number of years back are starting to come true. The article is about how several debates have now taken place on the subject of “Design” vs. “Darwinism” but interestingly, those on the side of “Design” were atheist/agnostics while those arguing for Darwinian evolution included professing Christians (holding to some form of “theistic evolution”). Johnson’s books have always spoken to the challenge of following the “facts” no matter where they lead, and it seems as though there are those who are doing just that – recognizing that the “design” proponents are arguing from science as opposed to basing their theories on merely philosophical presuppositions. Of course, anyone who has read anything by Michael Behe and is familiar with his story would already know that.

Here’s a link to the article.

Imagine No Abortion (it’s easy if you try)

So, our friends at “Students for Life” and “Life News” sent us some bites of info. One student article challenges us to envision a nation with virtually no abortion. That article by Catherine Phillips can be found right here.

Life News points out an article on the Gallup poll website for May 2012. Included in this article is the following trajectory trend of views on abortion – pro-life/pro-choice:

The entire article can be located right here.

It strikes me that, for years, people have unfortunately succumbed to a defeatist mindset that the vision of a virtually abortion-free America is unattainable. Aside from the above Gallup diagram, consider this photo and factoid from “Standard News Wire” –

Photo: After 34 years of child killing, this abortion mill in Youngstown, Ohio, has permanently closed its doors. This closure follows a national trend. Two-thirds of all abortion clinics in the US have closed since 1991 – Standard News Wire

So, be encouraged. Keeping consistently doing little things. Keep reading up on facts. Keep supporting places like “Informed Choice.”

And imagine

Who Dat with ultrasound laws? (Keep in mind I attended seminary for three years in New Orleans)

Yeah, you heard me right. Here’s an excerpt from the article at “Students for Life”

“To sum it up, beginning August 1, 2012, abortion clinics in the state of Louisiana must conduct ultrasounds on all women prior to receiving an abortion and also give them 24 hours to make a decision about their baby … a mother is going to be able to see the outline and hear the heartbeat of her baby … tell me that won’t be love at first sight … Geaux Louisiana!”

The law document can be read right here.

The rest of the really great article by Lindsey Frechou can be found right here .

I think I might play my accordion and then go geaux get me some gumbo.
