As handed out during a recent Cornerstone worship service (April 10, 2011), the following is a list of scripture readings pertaining to the “Easter” season themes of the cross, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. These verses can be read any time between now and Easter Sunday (April 24). These are some of the key events of the story of Jesus Christ just prior to the “triumphal entry” all the way through the cross and resurrecton. Be encouraged to ponder and even note thoughts about what each section of scripture “says” (didactically); what it “says” regarding your current life situation (devotionally); and how it can apply to life change (doing). An obvious starting point would be to ask yourself the question – Am I truly a believer in Jesus Christ, who died for my sins and rose again – and have I “believed on the Lord Jesus” in order to be “saved” (?) (Acts 16:31). For more information on this, go here.

A simple help-guide for praying through these scriptures would include utilizing daily expressions of praise, confession, personal prayer requests, and the lifting of prayer needs for others. Be edified, convicted, and challenged as the Holy Spirit guides in truth and application:

Jesus predicts His suffering, death, and resurrection: Matt. 20:17-34; Mark 10:32-52; Luke 18:31-43

Jesus’ “Triumphal Entry” into Jerusalem: Matt. 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:29-38

Jesus “cleanses” the temple: Matt. 21:12-17; Mark 11:15-17; Luke 19:45-46

The withered fig tree – Jesus’ teachings/predictions – His authority questioned –  the plot to betray and kill Him: Matt. 21:18 – 26:16; Mark 11:18 – 14:11; Luke 20:1 – 22:6

The Passover observance / Lord’s Supper “communion” instituted – the “Upper Room Discourse” – His betrayal and arrest – Peter’s denial: Matt. 26:17-75; Mark 14:12-72; Luke 22:7-62; John 13:21 – 18:27

Jesus before Pilate (on through) His sufferings, crucifixion, and burial: Matt. 27:1-61; Mark 15:1-47; Luke 22:66 – 23:55; John 18:28 – 19:42

The tomb is secured – rest on the sabbath: Matt. 27:62-66; Luke 23:56
